Breathe in/Breathe out…
That’s all it takes. Nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, is an extremely safe, effective way to help with anxiety in patients of all ages. It is not intended to put you to sleep. You will fall into a euphoric state and feel completely relaxed.
A soft comfortable mask will be placed on your nose. Dr. Stangebye will ask you to breathe normally through your nose, and within a few short minutes you should start to feel the effects of the Nitrous Oxide. You will be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions that are given. You may feel light-headed or a tingling in your arms and legs. Some people say their arms and legs feel heavy. Ultimately, you should feel calm and comfortable. All feelings of fear and anxiety fade away, leaving you to sit back peacefully while your dental procedure is performed. The effects of Nitrous Oxide wear off soon after the mask is removed. You should be able to drive yourself home and return to your daily activities.
